Leo is one of the few constellations that actually resembles what it is supposed to depict — a crouching lion. Its brightest star, Regulus, is a four-star system about 79 light-years away. Ancient Egyptians venerated Leo because the Nile's annual flood coincided with the Sun's passage through it.
