Leo is one of the few constellations that actually resembles what it is supposed to depict — a crouching lion. Its brightest star, Regulus, is a four-star system about 79 light-years away. The Leonid meteor shower, one of the most spectacular annual meteor events, appears to radiate from Leo every November. Ancient Egyptians venerated Leo because the Nile's annual flood coincided with the Sun's passage through it.
